EDI is a new type of ultra-pure water technology developed in the 1990s, Its development is a revolutionary advance in the history of pure water production technology. EDI can replace traditional ion exchange technology, produce stable deionized water. Unlike the hybrid ion exchange device, the EDI system does not require chemical regeneration, and does not have to be stopped for Adding resins or chemical regeneration. Therefore, EDI can achieve continuous production of water, and water quality is stable.Meanwhile, equipment investment and operating expenses are minimized.

Basics of EDI Thermal Disinfection for Ultrapure and Pharmaceutical Waters

High temperature disinfection with EDI is very important for ultrapure and pharmaceutical waters, where even small amounts of bacteria can affect critical water systems, such as USP pharmaceutical water, dialysis water, and ultrapure water used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Bacteria are often killed by UV-254, chemicals, and high temperatures. Chemical disinfection is often unwelcome or prohibited in the pharmaceutical and ultrapure water industries, so it is particularly important to establish a stable pure water conversion system through high temperature disinfection.

Most bacteria are killed at 50-60°C, and essentially all bacteria are killed above 65°C.

Two general protocols for validating high purity water systems: 72°C for 30-60 minutes, bacteria are killed in 0.1 seconds. 80°C for 15-30 minutes, bacteria are killed in 0.001 seconds. Both protocols effectively kill all bacteria (except thermophiles).
